The mission of Christians in Politics is supported only through the generosity and sacrificial giving of those who believe in its mission. At this time of division and disenchantment, it is clearer than ever that the salt and light of Christian engagement is desperately needed. But who will run to this mission-field unless they are called? That’s where we come in. We feel a responsibility to be preparing the nets for a huge catch. As thousands upon thousands of believers have reached out to meet the needs of the most needy in society in these last three decades, there will inevitably a flow of these passionate people into the world of politics. Once you have grappled with the complexity of homelessness, gang culture, or indebtedness, you realise that some of the solutions are political and not just personal.
So we need help to prepare the nets. It’s not enough for Christians to ‘just get involved’. We want folks with a biblical spine to get involved in a trained, relational, responsible way, so that their influence is maximised, and that we are discipled along the way. We want to prepare people well for the mission-field and we want to look after them well once they are there. But to do that well takes time and resource.
