Councillor Prayer Network

The Councillor Prayer Network initiative sprung from Movement Day in October 2017, when Andy Flannagan, CiPol's Executive Director, met Helen Harrison, a local councillor and former Mayor of Thornbury, who had a passion to support those in local government. Following this meeting and further discussion, Andy invited Helen to join CiPol as a volunteer coordinator, and the Councillor Prayer Network was officially born in February 2018.

The Councillors Prayer Network is a vehicle for connecting Christians who are councillors and those working in local government, and sharing prayer needs. Through the network, members receive a quarterly prayer email, which includes some generic prayer needs as well as those sent in by councillors. In so doing, councillors and those working in local government no longer need to feel alone as they balance their faith with their political role. All prayer needs are anonymised as much as is required, and the group is non-partisan.

The prayer email also includes information about local events that might be of interest such as prayer breakfasts, councillors sharing their stories and political journeys, and an invitation to members to get in touch if they would like to be connected with others in similar geographical areas.

Currently the network has 334 members nationwide.

If you are a councillor and have any questions, and/or would like to join the network, please contact Helen at: helen@christiansinpolitics.org.uk. Alternatively you can sign up to join the network and receive the prayer email using the subscribe button and ticking the Councillor Prayer Network box.
